Setting up Gradekeeper for Specific Email Providers

Most local and national internet providers will provide an SMTP server you can use. Note that some internet providers will only allow access to their SMTP server from within their network. So if you are trying to send Gradekeeper email reports from school, you may not be able to connect to the SMTP server for your personal email.

If you have security software installed on your computer, it may block programs other than your email client from sending outgoing email messages. This could prevent Gradekeeper from sending email reports. You will need to add an exception for Gradekeeper. Check the help or users guide for your security software to determine how to do this.

Gradekeeper has been tested with the following email providers:

GMail

GMail is provided by Google. GMail is free. The GMail SMTP server requires TLS or SSL. Use the following settings:
Teacher email address
Your GMail email address
SMTP server address
smtp.gmail.com
SMTP server port
587
SMTP username
Your GMail email address
SMTP password
Your GMail password
Since Google now requires two-factor authentication on your Google account, you cannot use your Google password as your SMTP server password, since Gradekeeper cannot handle the two factor verification code. Instead, you will need to generate an application password. Visit https://myaccount.google.com/security and click on App passwords on the right to create an app password for Gradekeeper. Choose Mail as the app. After generating the password, copy and paste it into the smtp password field in the email server settings.

Yahoo

The free Yahoo web based email service provides access to an SMTP server. Use the following settings:
Teacher email address
Your Yahoo email address
SMTP server address
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP server port
587
SMTP username
Your Yahoo email address
SMTP password
Your Yahoo password
If you have enabled two-factor authentication on your Yahoo account, you cannot use your Yahoo password as your SMTP server password, since Gradekeeper cannot handle the verification code. Instead, you will need to generate an application password. Visit your Yahoo account settings, choose Account Security, and then Manage app passwords. After creating an app password, copy and paste it into the smtp password field in the email server settings.

AuthSMTP

If your school or email provider does not provide an SMTP server you can use, you can pay $36 per year and use
AuthSMTP as your SMTP server. They will allow you to use your own email address and send up to 1000 emails per month. Use the following settings:
Teacher email address
Your email address
SMTP server address
mail.authsmtp.com
SMTP server port
2525
SMTP username
Your AuthSMTP user ID
SMTP password
Your AuthSMTP password
Gradekeeper web app

If you find setting up your smtp server confusing or overwhelming, you may want to consider using the Gradekeeper web app instead. If you use the
Dropbox edition or the Google edition, you can authenticate to your Google account. Email reports will then be sent using your Gmail account with no need to setup anything. If you use the Microsoft OneDrive edition, once you open a class and authenticate to your OneDrive account, email reports will be sent using the email account associated with your OneDrive account. No additional setup is required.
