Palm troubleshooting tips

If you have the proper versions of the Palm OS on your handheld and the Palm desktop software, and you are using the current version of Gradekeeper, and you have enabled Hotsync for each class, check the Hotsync log on your desktop computer. Look for a line that says "OK Gradekeeper" ... if this line does not appear, then the Gradekeeper conduit did not run.

If the conduit did not run, try restarting your computer. This will insure that the Palm desktop software reloads every conduit, including the Gradekeeper conduit. If you are using the Mac OS or Mac OS X, you may also need to manually copy the conduit from the Gradekeeper folder into the conduits folder.

Under Mac OS, look in the System folder for Application Support. Under Mac OS X, look in Macintosh HD, then in Library for Application Support. In Application Support, look for Palm Hotsync, then Conduits. Copy (do not move) Gradekeeper Conduit from Gradekeeper Folder in your Applications folder into the Conduits folder. You can copy the conduit by holding down the option key while dragging the icon.

If you are using Mac OS X, make sure that you have write permission to the Conduits folder.

If the conduit does run, but crashes or freezes, you may have corrupted data on your handheld. To clear out this corrupted data, first disable Hotsync for all your classes. Next, create a new class, add one student and no assignments. Enable Hotsync for only that new class. Then do a Hotsync. Disable hotsync for the new class and delete it. Finally, enable Hotsync for your classes.

If you are unable to enable Hotsync for a class because Gradekeeper tells you that you already have the maximum number of classes enabled, you may have moved or renamed one or more files after having enabled Hotsync for those classes. To remove these orphaned entries, simply do a Hotsync.
