Photos of Comets

 

Comet Lulin on February 22, 2009 at 2:30 am CST. The comet
was not very bright and no tail was visible from my suburban location.

 

Comet 17P Holmes on November 1, 2007 at 9:00 pm CST. The comet
was very bright and expanding after a spectacular eruption in late October.

 

Comet SWAN on October 29, 2006 at 7:00 pm CST.
Its tail is just barely visible to the upper left of the comet.

 

Comet Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 (Fragment C) passing near the Ring Nebula on May 8, 2006 at 1:00 am CDT.

 

Comet Machholz on December 31, 2004. It was fairly bright
and was easily seen with binoculars. But even through my
telescope, no tail was visible from my backyard location.

 

Comet NEAT 2001 Q4 on May 14, 2004. It was not as bright as
predicted, and there was little or no tail visible from my backyard location.

 

Comet Ikeya-Zhang was visible just after sunset on March 16 and 22, 2003.
It was very low in the western sky, but was bright enough to be easily seen.
